B Farmall Serial Number

WE are doing a B Farmall for an ag. mechanics project for local and state fair competition. Getting conflicting information on serial number so we can pinoint vintage. Old folks say is was bought 1939 or 40. Serial number says 41 model. Serial on plate under seat, someone said wrong place. Should be on left side of clutch or trans. housing. Help! Quick!!
