David:
The TD stands for Tractor Diesel. The TD14A came out after the TD14 in the early 50's I believe. You are correct in that it starts on gas and when warm you switch it over to diesel by throwing forward a lever that is in the upper left hand corner of the vertical instrument in front of you.
The tractor will need a magneto or distributor in order to start the gas part of the engine. I believe, if I remember correctly that the TD14A was equipped with a distributor. Call Associated
Tractor Service in Stockton, CA at 800-735-1301 and ask for Tom. He can help you with parts and advice. If he is not there ask for Harvey. He is
the service manager. Both He and Tom know those tractors inside and out. Plus they are good people. Tell Tom that Dale told you to call. I would also suggest that you buy a set of manuals
for the TD14A. You should have a Service Manual, an Operator's Manual and a Parts Catalogue. The best source of original International Harvestor Manuals is Binder Books in Tigard, Oregon. Their
phone number is 503-684-2024. If I can be of any further help just E'mail me. Take care of that TD14A. The TD14 and its successor the TD14A may be the best crawler that International ever made.
And that's out of all the crawler tractors that International made. It was a great tractor. Keep me posted on how you are doing. By the way, I live in Livermore and grew up in Fresno. My Dad
worked for International and International dealers
as a parts man and manager for many years. I grew
up with International. In fact I have a picture of him standing in front of a TD14. If I am ever coming your way I will try to find your phone number and give you a call. If both of our schedules allow maybe I could stop by and see your
TD14A.

Regards,

Farmall Restorer
