It has been a few years but I had some slopiness on my MTA driven gear as well. Steel Wheel Ranch knew what the problem was and sent me the parts I needed. He sent me either the gear or the shaft and a new roller bearing. It was probably the shaft because I think it is softer than the gear. I believe the gear gets to rocking and wears the shoulder on the shaft. This will also wear the splines. I reassembled the shaft and gear with something like a thread sealant to make sure the assembly was tight.
