Upon inspecting all gears and bearings in the center section I found that I could move the driven gear side to side on the shaft 1/8".Working with final drives for years I did not think that this was right.Someone had been in there before me at first I thought the bolt holding the keeper washer was to long but lock washer was tight the keeper washer was worn on the outside edge on the side that holds the gear used another 1/8 inch washer in addition to keeper washer and all side to side movement is gone. Can get about 1/32" lateral movement from shaft and now gear and shaft are tight on the spline.Any input would be a great help.Paul

It has been a few years but I had some slopiness on my MTA driven gear as well. Steel Wheel Ranch knew what the problem was and sent me the parts I needed. He sent me either the gear or the shaft and a new roller bearing.

It was probably the shaft because I think it is softer than the gear. I believe the gear gets to rocking and wears the shoulder on the shaft. This will also wear the splines. I reassembled the shaft and gear with something like a thread sealant to make sure the assembly was tight.
