The nut that screws onto the top of the bolster shaft against the steering sector gear holds the bolster shaft from dropping out. So if the nut is on the shaft and the bolster is dropping out the bottom then Bob is right on , the bolster shaft is broken. If the plug is installed in the steering housing the steering worm shaft shouldn't be able to come out of the steering sector gear I don't believe.
