The engine driven hydraulic pump is the only pump on the 240. If the Fast-Hitch and the remote valves have good lifting power, the pump is most likely fine. The problem could be in the regulator/saftey valve. I'm more familiar with this valve on non-power steering 240's, I'll have to check my book and get back to you. Have you checked the screen and changed the filter? They're located under a square cover held on by four bolts at the base of the hydraulic valve support on the right side of the tractor. Also, I would strongly reccomend that you don't put a loader on that 240. I've heard of too many of these tractors in the Farmall C- 240 family breaking in half when a loader is used. Sheetmetal parts for a 240, especially the side panels, are just about impossible to find.
