Serial number suffixes

Looking through the original (rev5 3-60) TC-28H McCormick parts catalog for FARMALL M and MD series tractors. Found in the back a list of suffixes at the end of the s/n that denoted among other things altitude settings gear speeds etc. I have a super MTA propane that was special ordered by my grandad (IH dealer in the 40's to the 70's) s/n is 82663ES the E meaning cotton harvestor distillate 5000' altitude and the S meaning engines with undersize crankshaft (service). What does the undersize crank (service) mean as opposed to the undersize crank?Also the book shows there should be an X code with a number between the s/n and the ES. Did they drop this on the MTA's or do they have a different system? Thanks for any info provided
