Is a torque amplifier dependent on hydraulic pressure to work properly or is it strictly mechanical with no fluid pressure actuating clutch packs? Both my 460's T/A and hydraulic system are dying. It seems to me that as the performance of the hydraulic system keeps deteriorating, so does the T/A. Two years ago, the T/A worked OK and so did the hydraulics. Both seem to be in a downward lockstep with each other to the point now where the fast hitch won't lift a beer, and the T/A won't pull the pop tab off the can. I've seen some rebuilt T/As available from dealers stating that some of these re-builds are mechanical sprague-type that replace the ramp and roller type. The implication here is that one is mechanical and the other is what?--hydraulic? Dad rebuilt the T/A about five years ago. Plans are to dive headlong into the hydraulics and T/A this winter. If the T/A is indeed dependent on a functioning hydraulic system, then perhaps I don't need to split the 460 to make the T/A work again. All T/A meisters chime in please. Thanks!
