Just want to say, I love this site. I can learn more about tractors here than anywhere else I can think of. I am considering bidding on a '55 Farmall 400, Gas, narrow front, fast hitch. The condition seems average. I heard it run and it seems ok (to my inexperienced ear). No smoke or noticable clanking. Owner said the Torque Applifier only works in one gear (will search archives after I post here). PTO works but the "lock" on the lever was missing and will need to be replaced. Tin is not great; left engine cowling missing (he said he had it but it was run over at one point), no fenders. No idea about transmission. I didn't drive it as I came from work and didn't want to get my work clothes dirty. I will see more of it at the auction. My biggest concern is the TA not fully working. Giving what little info here, what are some estimates? I know they will range across the US, but I just want to get a general idea. I was thinking $1000-$1500. Any thoughts would be appreciated and thanks in advance.
