RPM - You are right about the new CIH strengthened (solid web) cam gear. However it's the camshaft, not the cam gear that determines whether the cam gear nut is right- or left-hand threaded. The cam threads on my '53 Super M is left-handed. But a friend of mine has as pair of 400's - we discovered one is threaded each way. Go figure… Not sure one thread direction is better than the other - have seen both kinds work loose. Went so far as to tack weld the keeper to the nut on the last 400 we had to fix.
