Larry: This is method I use to put PTO on my A in gear. Depress clutch count to 5 slowly put transmission in gear and then engage PTO. If transmission is in gear PTO can not grind, if you do not want transmission in gear just shift back to neutral after PTO is engaged. Sometimes you will have to engagr clutch and move tractor slighly before PTO will go in gear. 80/90 gear lube will work fine.
