dave in response to the gear that drives that tach shaft, i just put one in a 404 at the cost of around 30 dollars as i recall just for the gadget that drives the shaft. the only thing was it only lasted a couple of hours. i dont know what happened to it. and i dont know if it can be greased.if you intend to repair it, check with your IH dealer to see if it can be lubed some way.BTW, that part that drives the shaft is made of plastic or nylon. at least in the 404 it is. good luck J in Pa
