I've had a 484 [old style, but bought new] since '84. I've had little trouble with it, though have had to rebuild the starter twice and, just last week, the alternator. But it only has 3400 hours on it now, so it doesn't get used an awful lot. Mine is the diesel, which has been very dependable. I don't, however, like the pedal that's supposed to equalize traction in slippery conditions: I just never use it. And the emergency brake works fine, but if you forget to release it a few times, you'll have to split the tractor to repair it. [There isn't a lot of adjustment on the cable itself.] I recently saw a gas one, moderately good shape, about 6000 hours, with a loader, for $8500 [asking] at a dealer in Maine. Overall, I'm pleased with it for what I bought it for; mine is set up real low, as an orchard tractor, which was great on the sidehills of my orchard but is much less great at my new place when I want to use it in the woods. I'd say it depends on price and intended use. Mark
