Sputtering Super M

Hey guys, I have a real problem here. I have a 1953 Super M Stage II (sn 27223) that is my life. Only a couple weeks ago, I drove about 40 miles total for our threshing bee, and it ran beautifly. My friend Dale owns all of the equipment, and I left my tractor at his house becuase it was the only working tractor with a belt pully at the time so he could clean out the threshers. He called me and asked if I ever had any carburetor trouble, becuase it was sputtering and blowing excessive black smoke. It surprised me, to say the least. I went down and inspected, ran it, drove it, and it was fine. Dale then told me it had been okay the last time he started it, naming a fluke as an explanation.
A couple days ago, while we were combining corn, I was on the SM and ready to retrieve a load when it sputtered, missed, and had nearly no power. My dad tried it an hour later and had no problem. Now, it is horrible. Sputtering and missing, (ahhhhhhhh-bah-bah-ahhhhhhhh-b-b-b-ahhhhh is how I would say it in kid language) I'm disabled in using it if it doesn't run right. Anyone have any suggestions? Sorry for the long post. Thanks guys.
