I have a 140 tractor that has always had a surging problem when pulling a heavy load such as a plow. I finally decided to try and fix this problem. My approach was to verify that the rod between the governor and the carburetor was adjusted correctly, and then if that didn"t fix the problem, I would try turning in the bumper spring screw on the governor. My IH service manual says to remove the pin on the rod yoke and with the throttle lever advanced to adust the yoke until the pin fits in easily and then lengthen the rod by one turn. However, the I & T manual says to just adjust the yoke until the pin fits in easily. Does anyone have any thoughts of which way is correct for the adjustment of this rod?
