Hi Don, On your oil filter I am almost sure you have a gasket under your oil filter. If not the oil would pour out when you run it. Don't ask how I know this!In that groove your talked about it looks like metal down in the groove, but if you take a very small flat blade screw driver you'll find it's a small rubber gasket and you have to pry it out with a screw driver. My tractor had two in it where the other owner thought it had no gasket and put one on top of it.On the oil pet cock, I think you can fill it to the bottom one drips then add about a quart of oil and be about right. The hydraulic pump is up in front of the dist or magneto area of your tractor.
