It depends on what is on the other side of this crack. If it is in the water jacket and is cracked on both sides. Forget it. However, if it is not in the water jacket and is in the wall of the bottom end and only oil is splashing on it, I have repaired severl cracks like this. I ground out a groove and did them with a wire welder...welding this pot and then that spot being careful not to get it hot. After finishing the weld, I ground it down and went over it with JB weld to fill up the pin holes and then ground it down again. I have recently repaired a hole in a JD block by the same method. However, if you get over being cheap like me, there is technology out there and special rods that can do a first class job of this repair. I have seen steel welded to a cast block. HOWEVER, my preference is for a sound block without a weld and if possible, I would get one.
