Hugh you are right on, I had a 1948 M for years and one day it vanished (9 years ago) The local sheriff insinuated that I had it hid from the bank which was crazy I was not delinquent on anything at the bank,and even if I was I paid 1200 dollars in cash for it when I bought it and owed nobody a nickel on it. So I set out own my own to find it, I got a good lead on it and furnished the sheriff with name,address,phone number and the works. To my knowledge he never followed up on any of it. Just recently I had a 57 farmall 350 stolen along with a wore out 717 NH silage cutter and lots of smaller stuff. I am sure these items were taken by danged ole junk man sheriff didn't seem iterested in helping on that either. So now I have moved all my remaining junk to the house most of which is in range of my 12 gauge. The sheriff had enough nerve to tell me whatever you do don't shoot them thieves. 4 years ago I had a new Stihl chainsaw and a new weedeater stolen while I was rolling hay I came up to house and noticed tool trailer door open and they were gone. I called sheriff then too,he ask did I see anyone I told him if I had I would have called the coroner he lectured me then to about not shooting the thief. How is a fellow suppose to gaurd everything all the time?
