That dang ole junk man stopped around here again today. Tried to convince me he would be doing me a favor by hauling it off. He kept saying well what about this or that. I tried to politely explain I had no junk I could or would part with. Then he looked up on the porch of a small cottage we are working on and seen my new stainless sink and said what about that old sink, do these people think I am stupid or what. He did not ask anymore questions in no uncertain he was told to leave. Maybe I need to paint some of these old rusty relics maybe they will appear newer and keep junk men away.

George: I find you almost have to keep it under lock and key. If you tuck it ont of site in the back 40 they will find it. I even heard of one guy having an M in shop for rebuilding away from home, to make room they put drawbar, etc. outside. Came back a few days later and everything out side was gone. These so-called scrap dealers are bad around auctions, not only do they gather up their own purchaces, but will grab anything loose on nearby machines. Police don't want to touch it unless it's insured, then they will look after insurance companies interests. Not enough value for them, nor is a single old tractor owner important enough.

I saw that number of years ago, local politician's shop was broke into, police, TV news, insurance company made big news of this. Sometime later an ordinary shop owner lost welder, tourches, wrenches and police never showed for a week to even investigate. He probably lost 3 times the value the politian did.

Hugh you are right on, I had a 1948 M for years and one day it vanished (9 years ago) The local sheriff insinuated that I had it hid from the bank which was crazy I was not delinquent on anything at the bank, and even if I was I paid 1200 dollars in cash for it when I bought it and owed nobody a nickel on it. So I set out own my own to find it, I got a good lead on it and furnished the sheriff with name, address, phone number and the works. To my knowledge he never followed up on any of it. Just recently I had a 57 farmall 350 stolen along with a wore out 717 NH silage cutter and lots of smaller stuff. I am sure these items were taken by danged ole junk man sheriff didn't seem iterested in helping on that either. So now I have moved all my remaining junk to the house most of which is in range of my 12 gauge. The sheriff had enough nerve to tell me whatever you do don't shoot them thieves. 4 years ago I had a new Stihl chainsaw and a new weedeater stolen while I was rolling hay I came up to house and noticed tool trailer door open and they were gone. I called sheriff then too,he ask did I see anyone I told him if I had I would have called the coroner he lectured me then to about not shooting the thief. How is a fellow suppose to gaurd everything all the time?

New sheriff at the next general election. I had stuff stolen. It's gone but the sheriff's department did catch the thieves.

Junk cars, trucks and scrap iron/steel is currently bringing $150- a ton. Copper $2.50+.

I have ran the same junk man off 3 or 4 times. I may put the dog on him. I agree with the job part. Around here they are stealing copper pipes to sale, I have also been hearing of thieves cutting caylitic convertors right off cars, they say say they can bring 100 dollars . Is this so? What gets me is they don't seem to understand the word NO.

I"d still rather see this so-called junk sitting around as posed to all those suburbanite houses taking up good farm land .Besides they just create BS zoning regulations and the like of anti farm legislation . But more importantly those things are future parts.

Last fall I approached a older farmer in my area and asked him about a IH dik that he had sitting along with a lot of other old rusty equipment.

The man said that a junk man had bothered him so much that he had run the guy off of his place.

I told him that I was not a junk dealer, and that I was looking for a disk to use with my Super M at plow days and maybe around the home place.

The old guy said that he thought that the disk was a #37, or a #370 but did not know how to tell the difference between the two.

He went on to say that the junk man only wanted to give him $20.oo for it. He said that it would sit there and rust away before he sold it for scrap, as it was still in good working order.

The guy said that he would sell it to me for $75.oo if I really wanted it. Without any hesitation I said that I would take it. He went into a shed and came out with a 3X8 hyd cylinder for it, and said you might as well take this too.

I cleaned up that old disk and repainted it. The old farmer came to see it and told me to come back to his place and see if there was anything else that I may want.

I went back and asked him about a IH #31 loader that was with the stuff. He said what the heck do you want that peice of junk for it's got a trip bucket on it. I told him that I wanted it to use with blade for pushing snow. He said there is a blade for it down by the woods. You can have all of it for $50.oo if you want it.

I bought it too, sometimes it does pay off when you don't offend people or bother them.

Junk is in the eye of the beholder, I suppose. If it's Farmall stuff, I doubt anyone here would call it junk either.

Just about everything here is Farmall stuff and some does appear quite junky, but it is only rusty almost every piece is operational. There are two Kory wagons sitting by the road, which is a dead end with a rusty four and two row cultivator for Hs and Ms sitting on them. and old plows and disc harrows and so on. I guess on second thought there is a bunch of junk sitting around here. Oh well it will just have to sit here, I aint about to have the junk man cut it up.
