brake shaft seal replacement?

Well guys, I'm into the brakes, the one side is fine, just cleaned it up a bit and adjusted it/ now the other side, well the splined shaft that comes out of the transmission case is leaking fluid from the rear end and is causing the brakes to slip. I got all of the brake parts off except that inside "rotor" I guess u could call it. The part the disc presses up againt on the tranny case. Accoridng to the parts site this piece come off of the transmission case. I think it just popps out since the bolts that hold on the brake cover also hold that on. Now heres the thing, If I keep the shaft pushed in can I pull this plate off without having stuff fall off down into the case? I'll have to get a new seal as well. It almost looks like an oring? Any help with this would be nice, as I dont feel like messing it up and having to take off that tranny cover. Also, the guy I bought it from said the rear end oil was changed last year? It's about 3 inches from the level plug and it is coal black!! It has the consistancy of thick motor oil, like after its been ran for about 10,000 miles in an engine... According to my mainual it takes 10w motor oil with 1 quart of some "torque amplifier tranmission lubricant additive" I really dont wanna spend an arm and a leg on freaken 8 gallons of hytran. Let me know your opinions...
