Well guys, I'm into the brakes, the one side is fine, just cleaned it up a bit and adjusted it/ now the other side, well the splined shaft that comes out of the transmission case is leaking fluid from the rear end and is causing the brakes to slip. I got all of the brake parts off except that inside "rotor" I guess u could call it. The part the disc presses up againt on the tranny case. Accoridng to the parts site this piece come off of the transmission case. I think it just popps out since the bolts that hold on the brake cover also hold that on. Now heres the thing, If I keep the shaft pushed in can I pull this plate off without having stuff fall off down into the case? I'll have to get a new seal as well. It almost looks like an oring?

Any help with this would be nice, as I dont feel like messing it up and having to take off that tranny cover.

Also, the guy I bought it from said the rear end oil was changed last year? It's about 3 inches from the level plug and it is coal black!! It has the consistancy of thick motor oil, like after its been ran for about 10,000 miles in an engine... According to my mainual it takes 10w motor oil with 1 quart of some "torque amplifier tranmission lubricant additive"

I really dont wanna spend an arm and a leg on freaken 8 gallons of hytran.

Let me know your opinions... 300u btw

well guys, the dealer wants $15.99 for the stupid seal and it has to be ordered, so that's a min of a weeks wait. Napa has it for 10.99, but there's no local stores to me. Autozone is a joke when it comes to anything not directly in front of them. Advance Auto to the rescue!! Theres one here in town and it will be here tomorrow morning at 7:30am. It's only $9.44 as well. Cant beat that. Now I'm wondering if I should go to the dealer for a $6 brake linkage boot. I might be able to make something out of an innertube or something. I think I'll hold off on the boot for now, its a simple matter to install if I change my mind.

If your 300 is the same as a H you don't want to pull the housing out as you would probably break it. You also have to remove the bull gear to pull the assembly out. Put a couple of self tapping screws in the seal and pry it out with the screws. If this fails you can cut it out with a small chisel.

at the bottom of my thread, 300u.
I got her figured out. I misunderstood the parts diagrams on caseih.com. Now that I have it appart, the exploded makes sense. Those crappy scan really dont help ya, haha. I got the plate off and now I just need to get a new seal and maybe an oring for the out part. That freaken bearing in there is HUGE!!!

This goop this guy has in here is bothering me...
"yeah I changed the rear end oil last year"
What the hell did he put in it, used motor oil?
HAH

Since you don't have a T/A it may have gear oil in it and won't hurt anything.

it being gear oil doesnt bother me. As you have indicated, being without a ta, gear oil is fine. When u have a TA or the tractor uses the rear end for a hydraulic res is where you get into problems. Luckily i dont have either of these. It just bothers me cause its coal black and is quite a bit low. I actually had to stick a 4 inch cable zip tie in there and it only got the last 2/4" inch coated, so It definitely needs new oil. I am going to drain it, re evaluate the "leaky" cover piece on the belly, fix that and price new gear oil.
Boy I hope case has this seal or I'm screwed... No napa around here...
