We whent thru this a few years ago on or 756 gas we change it to a D310 german diesel from a 715 combine. There was a few thinks the wrecking yard had to give us along with the engine to make this fit. See the following list.

Tractor Flywheel with ring gear , heavy duty starter motor, Tractor back engine mounting plate, front motor mounts, Rad and fan shroud because the waterpump feeds on the wrong side from gas to diesel, Fuel tank need a return port added or swap the tank. Also Had to rework & refit the gas air filter canister to fit the diesel.Had to shorten and redrill the engine rails because of the thicker back engine plate so that the hood would still fit, oil pan + oil pump and filter bracket with coiler.

The combine motor has a flat bottom oilpan with the oil pump down in the bottom of the engine. On the tractor the oil pump is on the right front side of the engine, The tractor also uses a stepped or deep sump oil pan so it cleares the front axle center ball joint support bracket. Also the combine oilfilter brachet interferes with the tractor side engine rail.

We managed to get this engine to fit and has been in the tractor 4/5 years now. And we like it much better than the old gas that needed a rebuild. Made it into twice the tractor the gas ever was .

But this was a big winter project and We had made a packaged exchange deal with the wrecking yard but still had some trobble.Did alot of head scatching on this project. Was a good education for me.

And because they could not find me a tractor oilpan at that tine. I had to fabricated my own bratchet for the front axle ball support. This home made bracket has enought clearence to fit the combine oil pan on the tractor were it wasn't meant to fit. Also the tractor oil filter bracket on ours was reworked with some external plumping so the bottom mounted combine oilpump feeds it, again not standard.

Ours is not a stock set up ,But it worked out well and were happy with it. And if I ever find the D310 german tractor oil pan I could make it original. But if I did project like this again. It would be a refit to a new cummins engine for the amount of work that's involved.A project I would like to try sometime.

Like the head mechanic at our local dealer said it can be done, but he could not do it cheap enought.Any project like this you have to say your own time is free or the cost would be out of sight.

Good luck
