I have three differant IH distributors, which will fit my 53 Super M, and I'm not sure what these differences mean. The original dist. is stamped JA3-xxxxxx, it has a 22L plate under the weights and one weight spring has 6 coils and the other has 7 coils, and both are of equal length. Spare dist. #1 is stamped NK5-xxxxxx, it has a 25L plate under the weights and both springs have 5 coils. The springs appear to be wound of a slightly heavier gauge than the original. Spare dist. #2 is stamped AA2-xxxxxx, it has a 40L plate under the weights, one spring has 7 coils, the other has 8 coils and both are of equal lenght. The spring gauge appears to be the same, or slighty smaller than the original, but the coil diameter is almost twice as much. Can someone explain this mystery to me and offer some advise as to which one will perform the best? I work my SM reasonably hard on the farm and take it to a couple of local pulls each summer. Thanks.
