Assuming you have the factory remote valve, I agree with Charlie U on the cross shaft. There shouldn't be any hydraulic oil there. I have replaced the o-ring on a 1950 M. It fits a groove in the spool. My valve was completely rusted tight; I had to beat the spool with a hammer to get it free! It works fine after I cleaned it up a bit and replaced the o-ring. Holds pressure just fine. The biggest problem I have with this setup is that if I keep the belly pump valve actuated so I can run the remote, the oil circulating back from the return side to the pump will burp through the top of the fill pipe. I think you're supposed to close the vent on the fill cap in this case, but then the hydraulic oil will blow through the shaft seal on the belly pump. I put a gauge on the cap, and read about 3 psi in the system. Maybe I just need to replace the seal.
