Surface area is still a part of the equation. I don't dispute that surface material and pressure applied are critical, but area must be also. Even in your locomotive example, in the steam era, as loc's got larger and more powerful, the # of drivers increased. I think we are both saying substantially the same thing, but neither of us will admit it. This thread will probably be off the forum by tomorrow, and it's just as well! Later, RickB.
