I am restoring my 1946 Farmall A. It is up and running, but it smokes a lot. The compression on each cylinder is o.k. The smoke is white and smokes at an idle or full throttle. My neighbor thinks the fuel ratio may be too rich. If this is the case, how do I turn it down?? It has a zenith carberutor. Also, I converted from 6 volt to 12 volt. Everything works good, except for the ammeter. The alternator I installed is good. However, the ammeter never shows a positive charge. It is wired correctly I think. Could it be charging and just not show on the ammeter? Also, the main belt that runs the fan is very loose, could this be the problem. Perhaps the alternator is not turning constantly (slipping)?? How tight should the belt be from the crank to the fan?? Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated!!
