My heart goes out to those of you who lie in the path of the planned flooding by the US Corp. of Engineers. We are experiencing similar situations here in North Eastern NY. The Northern Hudson Valley, and Champlain Valley are experiencing Record Flooding as well. The Great Sacandaga Lake, which was designed to control water levels in the entire Hudson River Basin in 1926, and construction completed in 1930, reached a record high this week. The dicision was made to release damed water, to releive pressure and as a result many down stream towns are suffering as well. Here in Northern NY river valleys are narrow and water rises fast and deep, rather than overtaking massive acerage, but the effects are the same, with our concentrated populations and interstructure in the valleys.
