I think I have determined the maker of the lights on my 1958 Farmall 240 narrow front tractor. A couple posts to my earlier thread yesterday suggested that if they were made by Guide I would find their logo on the lights. After some really detailed observation I barely was able to make the logo out through the paint on the back side in the center of the light body and as suggested would be Guide in script inside a circle stating made in USA. Finally found that on both of the headlights. The rear light I believe was made by Dietz as there are a couple very subtle differences between the two. First, no logo and the retaining ring is slightly wider (approx. 1/8" or so) and a little different in shape along with having a different means of fastening together to secure the seal beam lamp. The Dietz uses a conical shaped hexnut and lockwasher along with the screw and the retainer ring is different where the two halves are fastened together to accomodate the screw and nut. The Guide uses just a screw which treads into the opposite side of the bulb retaining ring without other hardware items. In addition, the cutout on the Dietz light body for the wiring is slightly oval in shape instead of round on the Guide. The overall shape of the body of both lights appear to be the same and indistinguishable in appearence to my eyes. I would like to thank the folks with their responses to my first thread as I feel they led to identifing the maker of these lights, Hal.
