You're are normally correct if the breakaway is leaking only when tips are plugged in and it's the o-rings that tips fit into. But if it's any other of the o-rings leaking such as on the levers that turn the oil on/off or where the barrels slide out/in then a kit and complete dis-assembly is required.
These are the o-rings/backup washer that you referred to that it requires2 ea for each box.
