At this point, I don't know if I need lock-up in 3rd.
Before it blew, I had the turbocharged 6.2 pushing against axles with a 3.08 ratios. So, I did NOT want lockup in 3rd unless on absolute flat-land.
Now, I'm sticking in 3.73 ratio axles - so I won't know how it behaves until I actually drive it. I've never owned a 6.2 diesel with 3.73s AND the OD trans. They were usually stuck against a non-lockup TH400 trans.
Until I got involved in this, I had no idea just how many changes the 700R4/4L60 went through over the years. This 1991 trans is very different from the 1986. 4L65 even more different.
And maybe I'm trying to make a "silk purse from a sows ear?" If I could of gotten a 4L80E with an old GM controller - I would of tried it instead. But none around cheap. Those controllers that GM used in the early 90s with diesels cost a fortune.
Manual trans can't be used since with three people sitting in front, there's no room for the shifter. Our little kid is growing up and I'm already having trouble shifting my Dodge truck with him in the middle.
