Glenn, even metal (with a high iron content) that has never touched calcium chloride will rust quickly after it has been sandblasted. You can see the rusting begin as quickly as overnight. It is probable that the rusting you are seeing after sandblasting has nothing to do with the CaCl2. The best thing is to wait to do the sandblasting until you are ready to paint so the bare metal doesn't have to sit around exposed to the moisture and oxygen in the air for very long.
