My boss has been building up a 24 valve 5.9 Cummins (twin turbo setup, balanced crank/power assembly, specially coated pistons, Big Hoss intake manifold, custom dual exhaust, etc. etc...) to put in his newer ram pickup. Said it would conservatively get 600 HP to the wheels, and probably over 900 once it was broke in and turned up.
He picked it up from the shop last week Tuesday, and within 5 miles it was making noise. Turns out the guy who installed it for him forgot to tighten up the bolts holding the tourque converter. Trashed the crank, 3 rods, and sent crap throughout the entire engine when the thrust bearing went out. The latest guesses I've heard before this was that he had $60,000+ in it, and probably not including his own shops labor machining parts, brackets, jigs, etc for him to tinker with it.
He'll be building it up again, this time on the other guy's dime. He hopes to have it ready in time for the drag strip this spring.
