: My neighbor who is not on the net, has a MF 7 garden tractor he uses to cut his grass (about 1.5 acres). When it has been running for a while, it starts to cut out and he can't run it at an open throttle. He has to choke it to get it to run at all. Where do we start? Any suggestions. This tractor has a techumsa engine in it. How long does it take before the trouble starts? If longer than a couple of minutes, I would tend to believe the problem is NOT lack of fuel to the carburetor, but it could be. Check the fuel filter, and try opening the main mixture screw on the bottom of the carb about 1/2 turn. The float setting in the carb could be off, probably not if the problem came on suddenly. One possibility is a bad spark plug which would cut out when hot, though choking it shouldn't help much if that's it. I had a Kohler engine that would act a little like this at times and the trouble was an exhaust valve that didn't seat properly when really hot. Really bad carbon deposits in the head can also cause strange results when they get hot.
