Last February coming in to Minneapolis in a snow storm I rolled my pickup on the freeway. Cop was a real meanie and wrote me a ticket for "failure to use due care"
I was huffed and decieded to fight the ticket.
June rolls around and I finally go in to the hearing officer. I tell them I want to go to go to court. 6 weeks later I go in to see the City prosecutor. He calls my name and we have a little confab. I tell him I have a good case and want to roll the dice before a judge. He tells me he's a paid professional who's trained to beat people like me in court. He offers me a deal: plead guilty, pay the $145 fine and if no other moving violations within 1 year it does not go on my record. I say No. I will face my accuser before the judge.
He calls me back a few minutes later and offers me this:
Plead guilty to doing 64mph in a 55 and pay the $145 fine.
I'm thinking WHAT?? I didn't get a ticket for speed.
He tells me 64 in a 55 does not go on your record at all. We need the money.
I'm pretty much dumbfounded but I agree and pay the fine.
What a screwy system for sure.
I would have liked to confront the ticketing officer.
No cause for them to be so insolent, arrogant and mean.
But I took what I thought was the easy way out.

Today's Featured Article - The Day Mom Drove the 8N - by Brian Browning. My Dad was wanting to put in a garden but couldn't operate the 8N and handle the old horse drawn plow he had found and rigged up to use with the tractor. Well, he decided to go get Mom out of the house and have her drive the tractor while he walked behind the plow. You got to understand that while my Mom is a hard worker who will always help whenever she can... she had never operated farm machinery before that day. Dad got her out there, explained how the clutch was the same as in our o ... [Read Article]
