: : : : I have a definite need to clear and keep clear about 200 acres. I am : : : torn between buying a dozer to clear trees but understand that a tracked loader is : : : probably more useful around the farm. Considering the same size machine, can a loader : : : handle the same trees as a blade? What say the experts? : GO WITH THE LOADER WITH 4-N-1 BUCKET. IHAVE A 175C DRESSER LOADER. GIVEN A LITTLE TIME YOU CAN KNOCK IT DOWN & CARRY IT TO THE PILE How big are the trees? It is true the loader can push the same as the dozer but that is not a factor if you cannot knock the tree down on the first hit. In that case you have to start breaking out brace roots and that is hard to do if not impossible with a loader. A dozer with a Hydraulic tilt and a straight blade is the choice for really tough jobs. The 4in1 bucket has too many wear points and will not take the abuse aver the long haul. Ihave cleared big trees as well as saplings with both big and small dozers as well as backhoes and trackhoes, all will work given time. Whatever you do make sure you have a ROPS, limb risers and screens or chances are you will get hurt or worse. I had a tree i was pushing on the pile snap and if it wern't for the limb riser I would be a gonner. Been there, done that.
