The rate of obsolescence is accelerating rapidly. Its probably why much of what we build and consume is shoddy. What's the point of having well built or artistic products when their life cycles usually expire at the same time the depreciation schedules are used up.
I live near Lowell, MA. It's not a boom town but there is a piece of land that housed a brewery in 1965. Since then two medium sized shopping centers have been built and razed on that 15 acres. The third was completed about a year ago. I really can't see any improvement between the first and last development. Meanwhile, I live and work in a barn that was built prior to the Revolutionary War.
