Yo Bob, Im assuming he used the Delco distributor and they should have 2 high cams each 180 across from each other (which his magnets fit over) so unless they are simply wayyyyyyyyyyyy off position, like you, Id be inclinded to wonder if one of the 2 magnets wasnt there, because when it passes by that obviously WORKING pickup it should cause that also WORKING elec switch to fire the coil. I dont think those caps can be put on wrong can they?? I believe theres the 2 internal pickup terminals 180 apart. If he just replaced the module that wouldnt have affected the magnets that fit over the cam.
BY GOLLY IMA THINKIN YOUR MISSING MAGNET MAY BE THE PROBLEM. It seems if the one magnet triggers the switch the other one should i.e. the assembly must be correct as far as how it fits over his camshaft. If its NOT the magnet one may think a cap or rotor problem buttttttttttttt he says it works with points so the cap n rotor must be okay
