WELL.. If it is like my D-17 (series 4) it has a bad ignition switch.. Mine if you didn't get the key in just the right spot and hit a little bump.. *click* Key off.. Fuss with it for 5 minutes to get it to stay on and it'd do the same thing in minutes.
Took myself to AGCO, New switch, no problems.
I don't think it would have anything to do with the solenoid, but I suppose it is possible. I bought mine from grandad (who's uncle bought it new.. been in the family since day 1) and even with the optima battery under the hood and jumping it off a diesel pickup it would turn over ridiculously slow, hit and run.. Warm or cold, always slow. New HEAVY battery cables.. same.. Looked at the solenoid, seemed it was working, but changed it anyhow.. spins over great since. Grandad asked what I did to make it spin good, I told him.. He said it spun slow like that pretty well since new.. but it was never questioned, cause it would always start.
