Oh come on , i have worked on 706's for the last 35 years and i have never had a problem getting the valve cove off one . remove the clamp that hold the two cooler hoses to the fuel tank heat shield and remove the ft bolts that go thru the valve cover and leave the back ones in . Remove the left side lower panel and roll it out the left side of the tractor . As for getting it HOT screw that set the valves at .027 , AS IT SAYES WARM NOT HOT and warm is around ROOM TEMP and at this time of year it is WARM enough . One thing to watch is bridging of the rocker arm to the valve stem because of ware on the rocker arm as the ware and will have a high spot and will give you a false reading if you get the feeler gauge between the high and low . Adjust the valves in order 1,2,3,5,7,9 when #1 piston is at TDCthen roll the engine over till #6 is at TDC and do 4,6,8,10,11,12.Then do it again to check yourself and fix any screw ups.
