It's probably not mud, just settled out crud. I'd remove the PTO shaft....tit slips right out.....that will allow you to clean the majority of the junk out of the differential. Remove the PTO shift lever to clean that area. The Tranny area can be cleaned through the big drain hole. Once you get the majority of the junk out, take the old differential oil, and let it sit for a while until the junk settles out. Put the clean part of it back in with a mixture of 50 % old oil, 50% kerosine or diesel fuel. Take it out and run it for 20 minutes with the PTO running. Drain. Then do it again. Then refill with new oil. After about a month of hard work, change it again. The little rubber boot on the shift lever is an easy place for water to enter these trannies, so replace that. Hope this helps, and watch what you say about farmers, or else stop drinking milk, eating bread, well basically everything. Take Care Steve.
