I think Nomad has asked a fair question, 'Why do we hold onto or acquire old tractors?' But there is no one simple answer because everyone posting on this site is different. Some of us are farmers and think it isn't smart financially to layout big money for a new machine, it's like buying a used car/truck instead of a new one. Rememeber, this is an old tractor site, so of course people here will be biased towards old machines. For some operations you might well be better off financially leasing new, running it thousnads of hours a year, taking the tax deductions etc, it all depends. I'm sure some people here are collectors, and a few of them (minority) might even think they can turn a profit at it. Then there are others who hold onto things for sentimental reasons, it was in the family, we had one like it, etc. Others like to fix them up and keep them going just as a hobby. The reasons can go on and on, and they are all valid reasons. In order to collect/restore these things and not really put them to work requires disposable income, just like any expensive hobby. If Nomad is from a culture where people do not have a lot of disposable income, then I can see where he doesn't understand why people "collect" old tractors.
