Can't beat an old IH Farmall Super M gas for starting when it gets cold. I would shy away from older IH diesels. No personal experience with them but just have heard they were hard starters for what it's worth. I have a couple old Ford Majors. Plug'em in and they will start to -30. My Ford 9600 starts good, better than my 8600 for some reason. I would be cautious about using blended fuel in the winter. I prefer straight #1. The extra peace of mind is worth maybe a little more fuel system wear. Maybe if you never get much below 0 for an extended time a blend might be OK. I have filters on my bulk tanks and change filters on the tractors every couple years. HTH
