That is such a broad question, I don't know if you will get real good answers. We all have our color preference, & you will just be getting those - red, blue/grey, orange, green, deep green, yellow. Don't know if that really helps you!

First, what color tractor do YOU like? An old beater that is shot, but something YOU like will more likely get fixed up by you than a much better tractor YOU don't like. This restoring stuff is all about attitude!

Second, I'd get something that is popular in your area. If there never was a deep green dealer in your area, and no one likes Oliver - DON'T buy one!!!! You'll never get your money back trying to sell it locally; there won't be any dealers near by for all the parts you need; there won't be any dead one's in the local salvage yards to strip needed parts off of; when you hit roadblocks in restoring it you won't be able to ask anyone locally for help/advise.

So, look around & pick from something that you like, and is fairly common in your area.

How's that for a broad answer to a broad question? :)

There are things to watch out for - SoS trannies in Fords; TA trannies in IHCs; old vs new style Ford 4000s; etc. But, hard to give you that whole list unless you can narrow it down to 3-4 tractors for us. Plus, if you are a good mechanic, you could buy a Ford with SoS for nothing, and rebuild it & have a fairly inexpensive tractor when you are done - so, it's not BAD things to stay away from - it's knowing what to look for, and looking for a good oppertunity!

Good luck,
--->Paul
