I enjoy spring. In fact I enjoy it alot. The entire world comes to life and turns green. Nothing better than looking at newborn calves in lush green pastures and long straight rows of growing corn. Before spring we have to deal with mud season and this year is worse than normal. We are still too wet. Have been since 2008. We have had almost 100 inches of rain in two years. We just had the most snow we have had in a winter season since 1978-1979. Things will get better right?
See we are tooooooo wet! This is looking south out of my barnlot.
This is looking west. These farms are all tiled but the ground is saturated and we got a inch of rain friday night just to make things a real mess.
Ground a load of feed friday afternoon with help from tritowntb and my helper logan. Just left it in the shed and I unloaded it saturday morning.
After unloading the mill and feeding everyone I had to put out a bale for the calves. We fed in the tires all winter using stalks that had been processed. To muddy to go in and out everyday so we are back to feeding round bales.
Poor calves have alot of mud to deal with. This is why we have been running the bales in the processor. That bale ring is about as much as they will eat. The rest is the coarser stuff from the bale and they just will not eat it so it goes to waste. When we use the processor it chops it up alot better and they use more of it.
Bought a group of ten bred heifers last week. Should start having calves first of april or a bit before. They have been checking out their new home.
Went to Neff co in avon and picked up the new cutting edge for the loader bucket.
On my return from avon I crossed over the spoon river on st rt 9. Looked like the river was about to leave its banks.
This is nice farm ground. Looks like another hard year for the guys farming bottom ground. And I thought I had water problems!
We spent the day today cleaning up around the Higgs farm. The 3020 is a pretty hand little tractor. It is a 1971 and has just under 2500 hours on it.
I scraped manure out of the sheds and off of the lot while nick, with wrigleys supervision, pushed and piled it.
We have been helping a friend get ready for his farm closeout.

He spent June 6 1944 shuttling infantry onto the beaches of Normandy. He has alway been proud of the B and it has been used nearly everyday of its entire life untill the last couple years. His dad bought it new. I sure hope they have a nice day for their auction.
