CV-62 was the Indy, CV-67 was the JFK. My brother served on the Kitty Hawk (CV-63 in 79-80. At that time the U.S. Navy had the "Tiger" program where the son or a male relative could meet the ship at Pearl and ride it to San Diego. My brother asked me if I wanted to go (both his are girls). My wife said "Go, it's the chance of a lifetime." I was never in the military, but am fascinated by carrier ops. I've been on Lexington (CV-16) twice. I had my tickets to Honolulu, and return tickets from San Diego to Houston. A week or so before the ship was to leave Subic Bay, the Iranians seized the U.S. Embassy in Tehran and the ship was sent to the Persian Gulf. I could have wrung that scrawny Ayatollah's neck with my bare hands. .... lol.
