I rarely wear one when I'm by myself. When my wife comes alone, she badgers me into it. I've got no argument that seat-belts add a safefy factor. So what? Not driving at all and staying home also adds a safefy factor.
To those that claim that anyone that does not wear one is stupid? Pretty dumb statement in itself. You ought to be embarrassed. Intelligence has little to do with it. It's a personal choice and preference. How far do you wish to carry your "stupid" argument? Is anyone that drives at all "stupid", or anyone that farms "stupid?" Or anyone that drinks a beer, runs a chainsaw, rides a horse, smokes a cigarette, rock climbs, swims, rides a snowmobile, etc. &c.
Life is inherently dangerous, and we constantly invent things to make it more dangerous, and then invent even more things to make those dangerous things "less dangerous."
I think it's pretty scary that there are so many people concerned about those that don't use belts. And I ask, back in the 1950s and early 60s, was everybody stupid for not wearing belts? They certainly exisited, and anybody could of installed one, if they wanted. Or, do you accusers need the government to tell you what is good and what is not?
