9n tractor fan belt replacement

I've got a 9n tractor and need to replace the fan belt. The pully coming off the engine has a guard cast plate in front of it. The belt sold to me by a ford dealer will not fit between the pulley and plate. thus I cannot get the belt around the pulley. Can anyone help me. Thanks George Benson
