I got lucky some years ago when I purchased some new surplus cylinders 2 9/16 dia. I would not recommend a smaller bore. The ends had been sawed off. This cylinder had stroke of 10" and was assembled with internal snap ring at the rod end. This is the most compact style. Cylinders with 4 bolts on the outside are limited to about 8" stroke in order to get the proper closed length. The extra 2" travel I have is a big benefit. The hose ports were odd, perhaps an aircraft cylinder. Removed all the rubber parts, welded the hose ports closed, drilled and tapped them for 3/8 pipe. Welded three point (7018 rod) upperlink ends on the clinder body and on the rod end. If your auxiliary hydraulics valve leaks down at all, adding a pilot operated check valve will solve the problem of implement "drooping" during transport. Thoroughly pleased with my installation.
