Depends on how you define farmer! Earns a living doing it? Probably a lot of "real" farmers wouldn't qualify! Me? Was raised on this farm, 120 acres in mid-Michigan, we had dairy, pigs, chickens, and raised hay, corn, beans, oats and potatoes. As we continued, we specialized more in dairy, dropping beans, pigs, chickens and potatoes - each time the dairy output increased. My dad retired in the early seventies, and sold virtually every piece of equipment on the place. He died in the mid-eighties, and I have been trying to keep the place moving foward. Have it all in hay, livestock is 75 rabbits, and 1 cat (today's count). We sell and show the rabits, sell hay, and some wood, and have a huge garden, - does that qualify us as farmers? Wife grew up on a dairy farm, is now in nursing at the local hospital. I teach as a substitute, and also driver education, although my degrees are in physical chemistry and educational administration. We have a Famall 200, courtesy of my retiring father-in-law, and a Deere B, formerly owned by my wife's late uncle, she's thrilled it's still in the family. I'm loving it, because there are only minor diffeences between it, and the B I grew up on. Have a small collection of impliments that allow me to keep up with the farm. Are we farmers? Probably not, but our hearts are in this farm, so I think we are!
