That's a good tip. What I have always done was take a VERY THIN piece of aluminum sheet metal was about a foot or so long and I just moved along until I got all the way around. I was using spray cans and had to hold the sheet metal and spray in the other hand. I saw a guy who also took some thin sheetmetal and had one piece wrap all the way around the rim lip and and clamp it where the two ends meet. Before that I used masking tape but I wasted too many rolls doing it that way.
